Giddy.  I think the proper word is giddy.  When I saw that Jayme & Mitchell’s Backyard Wedding was published over on Grey Likes Weddings…I was giddy.  And the title was what made me giddy.  “Why a Videographer Should Be On Your Must Have List.” Because I totally believe this, and not just because I love making wedding films.  But because Ian and I did not get a wedding film.  At the time we got married the wedding videography market had nothing that was artistically where we wanted it to be.  There were no “films” yet.  But NOW THERE ARE!  And like Grey said, a lot of couples are moving videography off the “wish list” and onto the “must list.”  My favorite line you ask?  “Scrap the lobster!  We’re going for the videographer!”

This is our second wedding at Santa Margarita Ranch and the first wedding, Jackie & Jamison, set the bar high.  Luckily this wedding matched it.  It was a gorgeous day and the weather could not have been better for Steph and Gregg.  These two have quite a story.  They dated while in college for a bit, but kept in touch throughout the years…  And reconnected 12 years later!  Knowing that they found their match, it was a quick courtship.  These two pair up well with one another.  They are both strong and intelligent with a sharp sense of humor.  Something that didn’t make it into the interviews (but is absolutely hysterical) is that after years of having a phone/email relationship they decided to see each other in person.  Gregg thought it would be funny to tell Stephanie that time had not treated him well and that he was morbidly obese (his words)!  When Steph finally saw him she quickly realized that he had only been joking.  They are such a good unit and on the day of their wedding we could tell that these two were marrying their best friend.  They spent their wedding day laughing with their friends, family, and each other.  It was relaxed and charming to see these two share this day with their loved ones.  May we all be so lucky…

Their wedding day could not have been more perfect.  Leslie, Jayme’s mom, worked tirelessly on the effortless design of the event which was held on the front lawns of a private property.  It added a perfect personal touch and that carried on through the entire wedding.  Another personal touch?  Brad, Jayme’s father, married Jayme and Mitchell.  It was so overwhelming to witness what could be considered the ultimate ‘blessing’ that a father could have on his daughter’s marriage.  As for Jayme and Mitchell on the day, they could not have looked more gorgeous.  I’m not kidding.  Just so freakin’ gorgeous.  But more than that, it was amazing to see these two as a unit.  When Jayme and Mitchell saw each other for the first look, they came alive!  They are a perfect example of the sum is greater than the parts.  These two sparkle when they are together.

On a personal note, this was the first wedding that Ian and I did both the photography & videography.  I photographed the wedding (with help from Hailey Golich) and Ian filmed the wedding (with help from John Williford).  We have a lot of experience filming weddings, but just started photographing them.  So I must thank Jayme and Mitchell for allowing me to photograph their wedding.  They put their trust and faith in me and that means the world to me.  Congrats you two!  We love you!!!

We were beyond surprised to see this feature over on Brides.com.  I mean…BRIDES.COM!!!  Ian and I were totally shocked when we woke up on a regular old Monday and saw that Jackie + Jamison had been featured…yet again!  We had absolutely NO idea that Phillip Crook with Brides.com and BRIDES Magazine had found this film.  So needless to say, we were honored.

Another exciting bit of news.  Phillip Crook is writing an article about pre wedding films and the benefit of these films.  He emailed us the other week to ask if he could interview us on the subject because he thought our films were a perfect example of this type of service, particularly Jackie + Jamison’s film collection as well as Kendra + Justin’s Love Story.  (eeeeek!)  So of course we obliged.  The article will be on newsstands late July in many of the Local editions they publish.  So look for your copy in your region!

We are beyond excited and thrilled that Jackie + Jamison’s tear-inducing film has been featured over at Grey Likes Weddings.   If you are not familiar with this blog, I now introduce you to Grey.  “Couture Motion reader….this is Grey….Grey….this is Couture Motion reader.”  I LOVE this blog and often find myself pulling images for inspiration way beyond weddings and into home design and wardrobe.

Please take time to read Jackie’s words on her wedding.  Jackie wasn’t sure if she was going to be able to budget in a wedding film, but after some tweaking she got it done.  She has a perfect way of describing why a wedding film is so invaluable.

And while you’re at it, why not watch this goodie again.  Enjoy!  Happy Saturday…

Their Kisses Are Sweet and Their Pirates are Gnarly…

One does not often associate pirates with weddings, unless the pirate is absconding with the bride.  At this particular wedding the groom was blood brother’s with a pirate captain and that pirate had the groom’s back!  In fact when a bold guest at the wedding dared to stand during the “speak now of forever hold your peace” section of the ceremony, the Captain shot him dead on site.

But in all seriousness, this was not everyone’s wedding.  It was Chuck and Deanna’s wedding.  A lot of wedding vendors write their blogs and throw the word “perfection” around day in and day out.  I think that what makes a wedding perfect is when it is your wedding.  At Chuck and Deanna’s perfect wedding there were pirates, as guests, flower girls, and as entertainment.  Thank God for that!  Beyond the pirating there was so much excitement to this wedding.  The pirates are actually part of The Pirates Charles and during the reception they performed 3 sea shanty’s.  There was a second band called The New Admirals that played as well.  Chuck is good friends with the lead singer, and together they actually wrote a song for Deanna (it was a surprise).  It was an incredibly sweet moment.  In fact the song that is used for this highlight film is that very song.

What I will take away from this wedding and this couple is the smiles and the eyes.  While editing their film we found countless moments where they would be staring into one another’s eyes and it was always proceeded by a beautiful laugh.  Or vice versa.  They dig one another… no doubt about it.

Maggie and Joe kinda remind me of a motorboat on a tranquil lake.  He’s just so calm and grounded and she is such a determined forward looking individual.  They met while at Chapman University.  Maggie is going on to get her Masters there and is also on staff.  Joe is studying to become a lawyer.  They both are intelligent and hard working.  They seem to be an incredible support system of one another.  They need each other and they appreciate each other.  Most importantly, they are best friends.

On an incredibly special note, my mom is in the same bunco group as Maggie’s mom Adrienne and they are great friends.  Maggie and Joe were supposed to get married in August of this year.  But three weeks before the wedding, doctors found a serious brain tumor in Adrienne.  So Maggie and Joe postponed the wedding until further notice.  This news hit me  hard.  My mother has had her own battles with less serious brain tumors, so I could relate to the situation.  I also had been over to Adrienne’s for bunco myself and just love her.  My mother kept me updated about Adrienne’s progress.  She also kept me informed of how amazing Maggie was during this difficult time for her family.  My mom says she was (and still is) such a source of strength.  My mother also commented on the support she saw Joe giving Maggie and the bond she witnessed between them.

It was an incredible experience to be present on this day.  A wedding is one of the most important days of our lives, but for Maggie and Joe to be able to have this day with her Mother and Father present gave a much deeper meaning to experience.  We can easily forget to be grateful for the little things, but on this day Maggie and Joe did not forget.  They knew the blessing that they had.  Ian’s father died before our wedding and though our wedding day was an amazing celebration, I know that Ian still felt something missing.  Maggie was able to have her mother with her as she put on her dress, as she walked down the aisle, and as she had her first dance with her new husband.

So needless to say, every time I watch Maggie and Joe’s film, I can’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion and attempt, as futile as it may be, to fight back the tears.  Maggie and Joe have the most amazing families.  This wedding day was truly a beautiful miracle…

Francine was looking for a Jew with ‘flava.’  And when Jon showed up to their first date (an hour late), that’s exactly what she got.  Not a couple hours later, it was love at first dance…the Robot dance.  Yep, Jon pulled out the big guns with the Robot that first night.  Francine and Jon make perfect sense together.  They are each other’s best friends and it shows.  Francine and Jon are so genuine and just wonderful people.  There is so much love and appreciation between the two of them.  We were so excited to document their love.

They were our 10.10.10 couple and their day did not disappoint.  The weather in Long Branch, NJ could not have been more perfect for their sleek South Beach themed wedding.  Francine looked absolutely breathtaking in her Amsale wedding dress.  And Jon…well he couldn’t have looked cooler in his Alabaster & Chess custom tuxedo if he tried.  Their wedding was a party and everyone knew it.  And party down they did.  I have never seen a bride and groom get down on the dance floor as much as Jon and Francine.  It was amazing and they have some amazing moves.  One last thing I have to share, when they had their First Look, Francine said to Jon, “I am so happy this day is finally here.”  We couldn’t agree more.  Congratulations on your beautiful day and we were ecstatic to be a part of it.

When they first contacted us, they sent us a link to their wedding website that Patrick had designed.  Hands down the best wedding website a couple has ever had.  So needless to say that we were super excited to work with Nicole and Patrick.  And when we met them, they did not disappoint.  They are awesome.  They are best friends and truly in love with each other.

Their wedding day could not have been more perfect.  It had rained all week but on the day of the wedding the clouds parted and the sun revealed the most perfect light you have EVER seen.  As Nicole got ready she was surrounded by her closest family and friends and tons of laughter!  The wedding ceremony was held at St. Catherine of Sienna which is a perfect little church perched up on the hills of Laguna Beach.  (Again, the amazing light pouring through the windows…)  The reception was at The Villa in San Juan Capistrano.  Let me tell you.  This has got to be one of my favorite venues in all of Southern California.  (A huge thanks to Michelle over at The Villa for all her amazingness!)  And Nicole and Patrick’s guests did not waste any time getting onto that dance floor.  Some of the best dancing we’ve seen yet!

I must share one more thing…  While editing their highlight film, I stumble upon one of my favorite moments in a mother-son dance.  While Patrick was dancing with his mother, our cameras caught her telling her son, “You have a good life ahead of you…”  So with that, we wish Patrick and Nicole a very, very good and happy life!  Thanks for letting us be a part of your special day!
